Bald & Beautiful Day

• Our Founder, Judith Taylor, was completing her studies including creating and running a community project, while helping her mother through her own cancer journey.
• Judith realised that the cancer journey was often long, arduous, lonely with little positive input and time to put pleasurable activities in place.
• Judith developed the concept of a day of fun, pampering and well-being for adults – men and women – with cancer. She had a few dedicated helpers committed to the concept and they garnered community support to arrange the day with just a few short weeks notice and no money in their budget!
• With a team of pamper therapists, hairdressers, entertainers and some Tai Chi exponents, the first Bald & Beautiful Day was born at Mayfield Ex-Services Club in Mayfield.
• Many in the community gave generously to the event with their services, their time, their products, their skills, their gifts and light refreshments.
• Bald & Beautiful Day was born!
• In 2006, the Rotary Club of Newcastle Sunrise championed the event and the new Foundation with planning, event participation, and some financial support for the next successful event in 2007.
• Another great Day! It was now becoming bigger each time with more 'guests' and more helpers. It needed a bigger venue and it moved to its new home at Wests.
• Bald & Beautiful Day's reputation was growing.
• In 2008, the Day will be on again with planning well under way.
• The date? 7th May 2008. The venue? Western Suburbs Leagues Club, New Lambton.

Sponsors in 2006. were the Mater Hospital Oncology Unit, WEA Hunter, TAFE and local identities, therapists, a Swing band and entertainers. New sponsors in 2007 included Wests, Grace Cosmetics and NIB.

Bald & Beautiful Day is now an ANNUAL event in the Hunter! It's a day dedicated to pampering, entertaining and 'spoiling' our guests.

Our fourth B&B Day will be held on 7th May 2008. Western Suburbs (Newcastle) Leagues Club has kindly donated the use of their Starlight Room for the grand event again next year.

Feel free to inform people that you know are living with cancer that a 'day of fun, pampering and wellbeing' is available to them.

As we rely solely on support from our community and businesses, we happily seek donations too!
